Is this a fan clutch noise?
2011 Land Rover LR4
Have a ticking sound that goes away when I rev the engine.Sounds like a diesel for a bit then goes away. Engine is newly rebuilt with about 10k miles and has new timing chain, tensioners, and VVT's. Noise goes away when I rev the throttle. No codes. My local indy shop said its the fan clutch and looking for more opinions before I order the parts. Other research in forums point to noises from fuel lines or something fuel related.

That doesn’t really sound like the fan clutch to me. Sounds like that ticking noise is following the engine speed. When I’ve heard the fan clutch problem before, the ticking noise just ticks away at it’s own pace - it doesn’t follow engine speed. The fan clutch noise is (to my understanding) the solenoid actuator repeatedly trying to engage and failing. I also don’t see why the fan clutch noise would fade with engine speed, though it might be harder to hear over the noise of the engine. You could try disconnecting the electrical connection to the fan clutch and see if the noise goes away.
Another problem with the fan that I’ve read about, which can keep speed with the engine, is actually the fan hitting the shroud. This is linked to worn engine mounts, and revving the engine can cause it to shift enough so it stops hitting. Not sure if there might be other problems with the fan that I don’t know about.
Doesn’t really sound like the fuel pump noise to me either.
Cheap mechanics stethoscope might help you narrow it down a bit. I like the kind with a little cone attachment as well, which can help target general regions of the engine where the noise is louder without actually touching anything.
Is it louder on one side of the engine? Sometimes a manifold leak can make a ticking noise like this.

Thank you for the response. Ive probed around with a stethoscope and can't tell where it is a. Sometime its sounds like it is near a VVT. The weird part is the a quick rev of the engine makes it go away for a while. Only seems to show up when idling.
