I removed the 3 bolts from the water pump pulley which I believe was a mistake because now even when I have a strap wrench on the pulley the nut just keeps spinning and does not come off. You can see in the picture the pulley is a little cockeyed so I'm wondering if I need to put screws back in somehow (not easy btw). There is very little room to work with. Im replacing the water pump and fan clutch so I do not care if they get damaged. I just need them out. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

 

I believe the bolts have to be in, I can't think of any way to break the clutch free otherwise.

 

You must remove the fan prior to the pump. It's quite easy with a fan clutch wrench.
