Head gaskets, 5.0 vs 3.0?
There is a 2016 LR4 within my trailering range for $2K with an overheated engine, which research says is the SCV6 rather than the 5.0 V8. Quite a few writeups on replacing the HG's on the 5.0 but not much info on the V6. Surely someone has done this or even better both of them? I wouldn't think it would be that much different than the 5.0? Isn't that the engine that is basically the V8 with a couple of blanked off cylinders?
Same, but the torque sequence is different. The V6 has you do something funky like initial torque, then back off and torque again or some craziness.
Id be more concerned that’s HGs won’t fix it. These motors cook fast.

There are 2 different circumferences of head bolts, one of their techs used the smaller bolts in a larger bolt hole and could not get them to torque. So they made the assumption that the threads were bad.
After that they sent every vehicle getting heads done to a local tap and die specialist for Time Serts.
In the end most of the community stopped doing heads based on the failure rates anyways.
I'm seeing that the 5.0 rebuilds that are successful involve getting the heads and blocks checked and corrected as needed, and inserts to hold the head bolts as they old threads can't be trusted after a failure. Some folks are of the opinion that it's the threads that fail first, the bolt loses tension and then the HG fails. Any plan would involve those important 3 items, either the 5.0 or the 3.0SC.
I've not had any issue with the threads but the factory bolts stretch and can't be reused. I know someone who makes custom bolt kits.
The 2014-2016 has the SCV6. If it's low mileage and in good condition inside and out, you could make a decent profit parting it out.

Not around here I couldn't. I'd be boxing and shipping trying to get my investment back and then have a half-pillaged husk in the backyard I'd have to pay $35 a cubic yard to get rid of. Can't even get the scrappers interested any more, no money in it anymore.
When I bought the $500 Rescue Rover it was suggested that I part it out. It's now my DD. I figure a really nice LR4 is worth more saving than parting.
