I bought a used LR4 with 23,000 miles. PO ha 20" rims and Goodyear Eagles mounted. Dealer did a water pump change and told him he needed brakes and tires. Inside the vehicle were 4 original tires and rims with no wear. I bought and immediately changed to the original tires and wheels. I put on new pads and had a continuous smell of hot antifreeze. Seems dealer did not wash out antifreeze when they dump antifreeze to do the job. The new pads went to 60K (37K miles) I then put rotors and pads at the 60K mark and at the now 73K pads are way within specs. I tow 16' car hauler and a 26' boat trailer and I figure to hit 100K or more on pads. When dealer does work, you have to check. He spoiled you with the antifreeze spell to sell. Mine will be around for a long time, never being touched by dealership.
The bottom line is that I drove Land Rovers for roughly 10 years and finally had enough of the breakdown crap. And now that they sissified the entire lineup (the LR4 being the last of a true LR look) they lost me and quite a few others.

IMO the SC V6 is a much better setup with the 8 speed transmission- smoother setup. I believe it was still about 280 hp. And actually was more responsive.Gas mileage was better as well. Also the newer generation 2014-16 had much lower incidents of electronics problems for whatever reason. IF however your plans are to pull a camper or boat (over say 6000# )then perhaps the V8 is the way to go.

We've had our 2010 LR4 the past 4+ years and it has been terrific. 75k miles and still feels and drives wonderfully
Water pump, a door lock actuator (both on warranty) front lower control arms and a couple of sets of brake pads - and that's about it.
I would highly recommend!

So all my issues have been electrical components in my 2011. Bought as a service vehicle w 65 miles.
This year we've had to do water pump, control arms and timing belt tensioners - all under warranty. Never had a break down of mechanical nature but several component failures. Early on had the fan clutch freeze on high and that was easily replaced.
We drive up to the mountains frequently and love the performance of the 5.0L V8 engine. I've only driven the V6 discovery sports but do not enjoy the transmission's shifting and lack of power off the line when taking off from a stop I find it unpredictable and cannot imagine it in the heavier LR4 body.
We are getting 38k out of the Cooper tires vs 22k in most other brands.
