Default LR4 tailgate issue

Hello everyone,

Hoping someone can advise on a failing tailgate on my wife’s 2013 LR4. So she is having issues with her tailgate not consistently opening. It does open at times after a little bit of effort. I just want to address the issue before it gets to the point where it won’t open at all.

From a little research, I am seeing that this is a somewhat common issue with LR3s/LR4s. I believe I need to replace the tailgate actuator and the moisture shield. The videos I have watched, they have only replaced these parts. On the Atlantic British website they have a kit which includes the two parts I mentioned plus an upper tailgate latch. I guess my question is, do I need the new tailgate latch as I’ve seen others not use this part or am I okay with just the actuator and the water shield? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I posted a screenshot of the kit I mentioned below.

BTW, the dealer wanted $1,200 to fix this, but $130 and a Saturday morning seem like a better option. Thanks again all👍🏻

Did this ever get resolved? I may have the same issue.

Yes, bought the parts from Atlantic British and fixed it myself. I believe I ordered three parts total, it’s been a while. If you call them they are very helpful.
