Need advice on 2011 LR4
Trying to decide whether to sell vehicle or replace engine. Vehicle is HSE with apprx 95k miles. We have had a block failure due to helicoil failure which ultimately stripped out/redrilled/refailed and now there is no tolerate available to bolt the head to the block (confirmed with multiple mechanics).
So bottom line is that we need a new engine. Every thing else is in good shape.
Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this?? We have been getting quotes of min 10k for engine replacement before installation.
Any feedback or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The 5.0 engine is used in many models of LR and Jaguar.
It is definitely possible to source a used one for half the cost.
Albeit with an unknown history.
You may also be able to source just the block.
I will say this. You will not get much if you sell it (in its current state)... maybe $10-15K. So the real question is not should you replace the engine or sell the vehicle. But can you buy a similar vehicle for less or equal to what it will cost you to replace the engine? Better the used car you know, than buying someone else potential headache.

I have shopped for used engines, they seem to go for $10K around here (no labor) and $22K new.
I'm really curious about the original failure. Helicoil? Who did that repair? We use Time-serts for repairs like that.
As awesome these vehicles are, a bad motor makes the vehicle virtually worthless. I don't know the financial situation and I don't know the condition of the vehicle, so I can't really make a recommendation. Its a "catch-22", because if you fix it with intent to sell, once it is fixed, its probably worth keeping.

Local dealer quoted me 14K for a new engine installed, and 12K for a reman.
I called a breaker in MA, and they have an engine they are selling for 5K with 37K miles.
I'd be researching the block the 5.0 uses to try to find a used engine.
I also think they are too new to find a remanned or just a long block but in the future..
I'd keep the old engine and rebuild it down the road to try to recoup some of my costs(once I find a used block).
