After 125K, the drivers side mirror finally quit on me. It buzzes and wants to move, but just won't. Dealership tells me I have to replace the entire mirror assembly, is this true? Is there a fix outside of that? Since it's buzzing I'm guessing the motor is still working? Maybe a gear went bad?

 

Well, the dealer is just following the workshop manual.
Of course you could always go old school… take it apart, confirm good condition, clean, lube and reinstall.

 

Hmmmm .... I'll have to see if I can find a video of taking it apart to get an idea of how hard that really is!

I think I found a used one on EBay and I can do a direct swap. If the color is wrong, I assume I can swap my shell with the one that I buy pretty easily?
