Both are maintenance heavy but all Rovers are.

The good news is the issues both have are well documented.

For the LR4 the timing issue, oil changes, high pressure fuel pump and danger of an overheat.

Bring your oil change interval down to 5-7k make sure the timing update is done and stay on top of preventive maintenance on the cooling system and you will have a nice truck that will treat you well. Maintenance with every Rover is king. The repairs are more costly however for the LR4.

How deep the pit can be depends on who is doing the work. If you are paying someone to do the work both can get deep quick. Doing repairs myself has kept the pair of LR3s' pretty reasonable for me.

My D2 didn't cost much in the way of repairs during my ownership. Your mileage will vary though based on what you buy. The youngest one is 15 model years old now.

My buddy has an LR3...he’s had to put some money into it. It’s been fairly good to him though.
