Default TDV6 Discovery 4 Park Brakes locking on.

My first blog. In backing up my Discovery 4 while hitched to a 17'6" caravan and while in 4wd, the vehicle commenced making a high pitched, high intensity screetching with the display display indicating park brake failure. Only by cancelling 4wd wasI able to clear the locked park brake issue. Is this a problem that is developing or is this to be expected.

The Disco 4 (LR4 in the US) is a permanent 4WD vehicle. You can't switch it out of 4WD, so I assume you're talking about the transfer box and moving into low range? If that's the case, it has no bearing on the parking brake operation, so I'm unclear how you're generating the fault. I wonder if you're in the UK, in which case you'll find a great deal of information on the Disco3.co.uk site on issues related to the parking brake, as well as the absolutely essential 'Bodsy's Brake Bible', which will show you how to address most brake-related issues. If the brake is squealing refer to the handbook and execute the manual brake release (pull VERY HARD INDEED). Proper and routine park brake maint is essential on these vehicles.

The GAP IID tool has a park brake unjam sequence I believe if you have one.

Hey JWBennett,

The LR3 has a manual E-brake release cord, I'm pretty sure the LR4 does too. Somewhere under the center console (shifter, cupholders, etc.). This could help next time you run into this issue and could allow you to ensure the E-brake is not engaged when doing some testing to see what the cause is.

Hope this helps.
