Default UV Dye

Has anyone used a UV dye to find a coolant leak? Sounds like it works great just dont want it to change my coolant color. 2012 LR4 HSE - orange coolant. Looking for recommendations.

I haven’t used it, but I understand you need to get the UV dye that is formulated for the orange coolant (Dexcool long life coolants). I know ACDelco sells one, and I think NAPA auto has their own as well. Probably some others. Those dyes shouldn’t change the color of the coolant.

I'd suggest you buy a black light (UV) first and check whether the coolant is UV refractive. Many are and you'll probably find you're ok. If you've used LR-spec coolant (eg Pentofrost, I think in the US and yes it's orange) it will show up. I had a tiny coolant leak and using black light found that the whole thermostat housing was breaking down; the black light showed multiple tiny fractures where coolant was seeping through. The dye they sell is more commonly used for oils where there is very little/no UV refraction.
