I was checking the local auction listing and found a 2010 Range Rover Sport. Stornoway Grey exterior with Black interior and Black Wheels. Great looking vehicle. It was in a front end collision that damaged the front bumper cover, the driver's side headlight slightly dented the hood and dented the left front fender. I am currently trying to source a driver's side headlight for a decent price and the bumper cover. There is a leaking coolant hose below the coolant reservoir. I need to fix that and then remove all of the coolant and replace with fresh. Exterior is in pretty nice shape overall. Interior has a few scuffs on the back seats. Engine runs well. I need to get it home and start working on it. I have a few questions.
1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a coolant vacuum? Seems to be the only way to properly drain and fill the cooling system.
2. I looks to have a leaking valve cover gasket on the passenger side. I need to clean it up and run it for a bit to determine the exact source of the leak.
3. It may have a remote issue. The remote was acting like the remote battery was dead. I changed out the battery but it still isn't working unless I hold it under the steering column. Could be a bad connection on the vehicle battery. Seems like the battery posts are smaller than normal. It has a H-8 battery in it. I replaced with the original sized H-7 ( Interstate was out of the H-8).
4. A/C is dead. I hope that it is just lacking coolant. I need to do a leak test and then refill the system.
I keep telling myself that one Range Rover/Land Rover at a time is enough of a chore, then I bought another............pray for me. Phil
PS, Got back last night from a quick trip to Utah in our Black 2010 Range Rover Sport. Put on around 2,000 miles. Averaged 19.6 mpg. Gas was $3.36 per gallon in Utah, $4.95 in Barstow....... and $4.35 a gallon back here in San Diego. Truck ran flawlessly, although I am feeling a slight shimmy with the front rotors. I need to check how much is left on the pads. I think that I got this set of pads and rotors from FCP Euro, with the lifetime warranty. Although the price of shipping the rotors to New York may be more than a new set of rotors with the free shipping.......

a quick updated, I got the Range Rover Sport home and had a chance to dig into it a bit deeper. I got the bumper off and found that evidently something had punctured the ac condenser and the radiator. The radiator core support is also cracked. The core support is made of pot metal and is extremely brittle. I sourced a used core support at the local wrecking yards for $100. I am getting a new radiator and a new ac condenser. The oil leak is a bit of head scratcher. It looks like it might be coming from oil filter cover that wasn't secured properly. At least that is what I am hoping that is the cause. There was a fair bit of oil caked from the oil filter cover down the front of the passenger side of the engine. I spent an hour cleaning with simple green and an old toothbrush. Getting the radiator and ac condenser out was a bit of a pain. Some of the smaller screws that connect the radiator and the ac condenser were hanging things up. I will also need to replace the plastic bumper supports that were broken in the collision.
The paint came out great. I did a couple of very deep washes using my foam sprayer. I followed up by claying the entire vehicle and then polished it out with a flex 3401 polisher and HD Speed. The top has some clear coat failure but the rest of the body looks like new. The black wheels need some love. Each of them has curb rash. Some of the items mentioned in my first post were caused by a bad battery connection. Remote is working great and all electronics are working properly. I hope to have it back on the road by next week. Phil
