Question Freelander 2WD Conversion - Insurance!

Guys,

I'd appreciate a pointer please. Faced with a huge bill to replace my propshaft on a 2001, 1.8 GS petrol Freelander, I took the advice of the garage and had it removed. I'm working away from home and just need a general run around for another 18 months or so which is why I opted for the conversion. Other than that, I've had no problems with it - 60,900 miles, all electrics working as they should, no leaks, no other issues.

However, the 2WD conversion now means my insurance company won't cover the modification. I'm now hunting around to find someone who will. Anyone out there who's got a 2WD Freelander covered - a point in the right direction would be great.

Thanks

All sorted. The insurance companies do ask 'Has the vehicle been modified?'. It's a common question and removing the propshaft so that the vehicle is 2WD could count as a modification and mean that the insurance isn't honoured in the event of an accident.

In any case, I found a specialist insurance company that deals with classic cars, kit cars and modified vehicles (Adrian Flux Insurance). I'm now fully covered and, surprisingly, my premium actually fell by by £175 on my Swiftcover renewal quote!!!

Good to know. Many owners of Rovers mod their vehicles, from lifts, oversized tires, alternate audio and electrical systems, roof racks and external lights of all types, GPS systems. So what could count as a modification would be subject to interpretation, and a mod might contribute to fire, loss of control, or distracted driving. Perhaps some of our members who are in the insurance biz might comment.
