Default Towing with a 2WD freelander?

Hi Freelander experts I need your advise!

I have a Freelander 2 Litre diesel (year 2000 3 door) recently my control system for the 4x4 broke and needs replacing however its more expensive than the value of the car therefore I have had my diff removed completely making the car 2 WD only. The mechanic then told me not to tow with the car any more as it won’t be able to perform.
The weight I am towing is 1 trailer weighting 870kg approx and a pony weighing 430kg approx. I have never towed 2,00kg with it and personally I don’t think it could.

Please can anyone advise if I am safe to tow this weight or how losing my back wheels will affect me?
Can I still tow the above weight safely? ( I won’t be towing in pouring rain or ice).
Thank you in advance!

Not sure, but the max towing weight is about 1134kg on a fully functional unit (at least in the 2002 owner manual). So you are already over limit stated in the manual, now you remove some of the drive train. Your mechanic is doing you a favor. The safety of your animal, your family, and others is important. Please consult you owner manual, and get the proper trailer (aluminum) or truck for the job at hand.

By golly you are correct, I found a 2000 manual, and it is 2000kg - while the 2002 is 43% less at 1134kg. Not sure why such a big change.

Wow that is a massive change... I have never actually towed 2,000kg as the car only weights approx 1,500kg so in my mind its a bad idea however am told it can :s
Getting a new IRD next week so I shall be back in the road with 4 wheel drive decided not to risk the 2wd with a horse... It's a lot of weight if you have a wet road
Fivers crossed nothing ear brakes although I think I have repairs everything possible!!!

perhaps, as NAS spec is only petrol. But the 2000 owner manual showed same weight limit for petrol or diesel. I attached the page from each manual.
