Thats rather low, with alot of metal in the front left section of the antennas "view"... id atleast try to get 1/4 of the antenna over the roof line, on the roof is definatly the best as it would also act as a somewhat decent groundplane. you could also get a lip mount and put it on the hood where a "stock radio" antenna would be on most cars and run the wire under the back lip of the hood... i have a vhf/uhf antenna like that now as i already have a cb on the spare tire carrier (which i dont evne use anymore)... looks stock, and can use the hood as a directional groundplane to the left, right or front depending on where you stick it, and open on the other lol

have some pics of my setup there... ive since coated the stupid chrome lip mount in black undercoating so you dont even notice it!

The hood doesn't make a good ground plane as it is not metal.

I am a ham and I have a center loaded antenna so the ground plane is less important. I have chosen a lower mounting point so I won't lose it to a tree. It is a compromise.

Coax runs cleanly under rear bumper, up behind tail lamp assembly, and is tucked underneath stuff all the way into my CB. As you can see, CB is mounted right beside driver. I love it.

Plus, we only use CBs off road anyways? Who cares if mine only gets out a mile or so? Also, I'm only running a four watt CB.
