Hello all. Found this thread and wanted to ask if anyone has any contacts or information on how I can get Land Rover corporate to acknowledge and provide me with assistance with my own catastrophic engine failure experience. I’ve gotten nowhere with corporate on any goodwill offers. I can provide more details, send me a message if so. Thank you all so much!

Sheesh. For $20k, you can buy a whole used Disco 5 that drives and everything - even swap the motor!

Or, you can buy a replacement for $20k and park your old Disco by a storm drain on a rainy week and pray for a flood.

There is nothing wrong in buying overpriced oils and changing them far in advance of factory recommendations to lower stress. But engines and oils have far improved from the ancient "every 3k" days. LR, like every manufacturer, needs to pay attention to its reliability ratings. It's not going to recommend maintenance that it knows will result in catostrophic engine failure well below 100k. And Castrol is hardly an inferior oil.

You shouldn't stress that much
As for oils changed prematurely, the new oil comes with overdose of detergents and chemicals, who wear out to perfect balance and then go into low level with recommended intervals.
Meaning frequent change you run your engine on lot of detergents and acids. When this is not major issue and IMHO modern engine will run ok even on cooking oil, I hate the idea that I am spending money to shorten my engine life.
It always amaze me how many people post strong opinions having nothing to back it up and never spending $25 or 40 on lab tests.

Agree. I don't want to ridicule ppl who insist on that ancient oil change necessity or want to pay double for certain oils. But I don't need to hear about how following manufacturer's recommendations, or something in between, will kill the engine prematurely.

Some owners make oil change a religion.
They know nothing about oils, they don't send anything for testing, yet they have very strong opinion about the subject.
