Default CPO Question

To all,

Looked through the forum and did not see an answer to this question.....wonder if anyone knows the answer......

When buy a certified vehicle, the date that the vehicle is started being used on the roads, the "Vehicle In" date, is the start of any warranty period.

The Land Rover CPO policy states that the the CPO is ....UP TO 7 years /100000 miles.

Is this a negotiable item? For instance, can the dealer who owns the vehicle say......you get 5 years/100000 because it says 'UP TO" and not the 7 years from the "Vehicle In" date? For instance, if you buy a Land Rover model, you get 5 years....if you buy the Range Rover, you get 7 years (but the mileage is the same).

Thanks in Advance,

Plaw

No. The LR CPO Warranty is universal and a dealer cannot negotiate the terms of it.

Im sort guessing here, but I believe that a CPO has only one type and is carried by LR. Aftermarket or third party warranties have varying levels, but these warranties can only be purchased at the dealer as well.

The warranty clock starts ticking on the original "in service" date. Not negotiable.
That date should have been disclosed to you at the time of sale.

No negotiating. Starts on first sale date. It’s why many CPOs cost more than a new one. Mine was 6 months only with 6800 miles but I got it with the 7ur 100k warranty. Totally worth it.

Just to clarify. It's actually on the 'in service' date. Not the first sale date. A few people have been caught out buying a brand new 10 mile car that has never been owned but the dealer put it in service many months earlier (perhaps to meet an incentive target) and burned the first several months of the warranty...
So even if you are first owner, check that you also have the in service date. It should be the same but not always

Default Dealer telling me otherwise

I reached out to a local LR dealer regarding a 2018 CPO Discovery HSE with very low miles. When I inquired about the length of the warranty, he told me that it was 5 years / 100k. The in service date was 11/27/18, so only covered through 11/27/23.

He went on to say that this is SOP and it is all in the wording. All dealers say up to 7 years or 100k miles. Land Rover’s rule is the Certified Land Rover must leave with at least 2 years of full warranty up to 100k miles, so you could in fact add 1 more year or 2 more years at an additional cost. he quoted me on extending the warranty by 1, 2 or even an 8 year/125k ‘wrap’ option for the following rates:
1YR $1500

2YR $2500
8YR $2895

This vehicle seemed perfect otherwise 🤷‍♂️

any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!

The Land Rover CPO site says it is 7 years or 100,000 miles (from original in service date) and to be a CPO the car must be less than 5 years old and with less than 60,000 miles. So buying a CPO vehicle that’s already nearly 5 years old means you would get only 2 years of warranty, or buying a vehicle with nearly 60,000 on the clock would mean “only” 40,000 miles of warranty. Hence “up to” 7 years or 100,000 miles, to get that much you’d have to buy it used when it was nearly new, like a demonstrator.
On the vehicle that was in service November 2018 you would have warranty until November 2025.
What the dealer is telling you is wrong.

Anyone selling 1, 2 or 8 year packages is selling an aftermarket warranty that adds to the CPO. Not needed on the November 2018 car unless you plan on keeping it past November 2025...

The question I have is: How good is the CPO warranty versus the cost.
