Default Disco V Subwoofer open to outside?

Hey, I have a 2019 Disco V. I located the subwoofer in the rear flooring compartment. I tapped into the wires to relay as inputs for an aftermarket subwoofer. I noticed the stock subwoofer port faces down and out a hole to the atmosphere. I could literally reach through it and touch my spare tire. Is this normal? How would the vehicle wade in water and it not enter the compartment? I looked online to see if there is supposed to be a rubber seal that dropped out. The dealer has no clue of this is normal. He said he would have to open it up and “put eyes on it”. It’s not an issue now, but I’m hesitant to off road and certainly wade in any water. I just wanted to see if you noticed the same thing on your Disco V.

Normal for Land Rover, yes, practical as for what the vehicle is intended to do, not in the least bit. The speaker is vented to atmosphere for the acoustics. If right( all doors sealed shut and no “leaks”) you should have the best audio system in the planet lol. However, Land Rover has failed us again with water leak plagues. Just saying, from a tech, went to class for JLR, many classes.

Seems weird but as the vehicle has the highest wading depth of any vehicle on the market it can’t be as much of a problem as we suspect?

Yes, that’s why I was taken back when I saw it. The stock subwoofer screen faces out to the elements and the seal around it is simply foam. Not a robust rubber seal. I guess time will tell. Thanks for your input.
