Planning to do the fuel filter this weekend, have already swapped the cabin filter purchased from RockAuto.
Thanks @quinte55ence. Leaking injector seals makes a little more sense to me as I've been experiencing some slight rough idle when the vehicle is placed in reverse at cold start and upon initial acceleration in drive at cold start. Any other symptoms of leaking injectors and/or seals?
I've still been averaging 23-24mpg and honestly the car drives really well outside of the smell when parked and intermittent rough idle.
Thanks!

It's relatively easy if it hasn't coked up and solidified. So best to get on it now. It's easy provided you can get things out of the way so that the injector can be pulled up straight out of the engine, so hopefully the one that's leaking is most easily accessible. I do believe seals are considered a long-term 'wear' item so I think it's bound to happen to every diesel. Besides the exhaust smell, rough start is a sign of leakage.
You can determine which injector may be leaking by using a long flexible tube that you run right to the injector hole, put the other end on your nose and then give it a sniff.
