Default EGR & Intake carbon cleanup

I came across this topic on a ford forum and I wanted to seek LR community's feedback.
Since the Td6 motors recirculate exhaust gases through the intake, I imagine it would lead to major carbon deposits along the way.

I've had several direct injected VWs, so carbon cleaning the intake isn't new.
I'm also coming across info on newer Audi TDIs having similar issues with EGR and carbon deposits.

Just wondering if Td6 owners here have some recommendations on if/when to clean up the intake; cost/time estimates would be helpful

I had to have mine replaced. @80K

Parts and labor $1700.

I plan on cleaning my old part. I will post pics on my build thread.

Resurrecting this thread to post an update:
My first throttle body cleanup was at 30k, nearing 60k so I figured it would be good repeat it.
I didn't take the pre-clean-up pictures so posting the 30k ones, for reference (60k soot build-up looked very similar).

Took my inspiration from LRTime channel, for cleaning up soot. Images below:
I ran the chemical circuit twice, and rinsed with water on the third. I'd say the cleaner took out 90% of the soot, and whatever was left behind was very easy to scrape out (it was dried soot instead of the oily gunk material)

Mine was just like this. Took about an hour and I did it in the garage at home without issue. It was nearly blocked. Same with the EGR and the other sensor in there. I’m was surprised it ran.

Now it’s much, much better.

Any instructions on how to remove the EGR valve?
I'd love to clean that out but scared to touch it without instructions.

They are two EGR valves. A and B, my mechanic said 6 hour for left/driver side removal. Need access top and bottom.
So I opted for him to do it. ( note I have yet to clean my old EGR, sorry)

As of six months, my right EGR is throwing a valve stuck closed cel....... I am letting it ride, If its closed, it isn't filling my system with soot/carbon...LOL
( note: no power loss, no fuel economy loss as a result of it stuck closed )

Chickens on the freeway, film at 11!

It’s been a while now and I don’t have instructions other than the online shop manual I found somewhere. I also kinda just made it up as I went.
