I came across this topic on a ford forum and I wanted to seek LR community's feedback.
Since the Td6 motors recirculate exhaust gases through the intake, I imagine it would lead to major carbon deposits along the way.
I've had several direct injected VWs, so carbon cleaning the intake isn't new.
I'm also coming across info on newer Audi TDIs having similar issues with EGR and carbon deposits.
Just wondering if Td6 owners here have some recommendations on if/when to clean up the intake; cost/time estimates would be helpful
Resurrecting this thread to post an update:
My first throttle body cleanup was at 30k, nearing 60k so I figured it would be good repeat it.
I didn't take the pre-clean-up pictures so posting the 30k ones, for reference (60k soot build-up looked very similar).
Took my inspiration from LRTime channel, for cleaning up soot. Images below:
I ran the chemical circuit twice, and rinsed with water on the third. I'd say the cleaner took out 90% of the soot, and whatever was left behind was very easy to scrape out (it was dried soot instead of the oily gunk material)
