Default Front and Rear Diff fluid change, also transfer case fluid change

My rig hit 80K. So time to change diff and transfer case fluids.

Leveled the old girl up. laid out the respected fluids in location.

6 ton jack stands, not harbor freight. LOL

Level check

rear fill plug, 8mm allen

rear

rear 3/8 square drive

rear plug, little metal on magnet, pretty normal.

rear

front diff

front 8mm hex plug also

front 3/8 square drive

front plug

front plug, again normal amount of metal

front draining

muddy shield shows no leaks

transfer case, you can see the small heat shield you need to remove.

transfer case draining.

I used a small cheap pump to refill them all. I filled till they ran over.

Great info and detail, thanks!

How difficult was it to get the underbody shield off?

Not difficult at all. I remove it every oil change too. Personally, I like to inspect everything under there.

As usual, gmfain knocks it out of the park!

What guidance did you use for changing the fluids at 80k miles? What are the required differential and transfer case fluids? Have you changed your transmission fluid or, if not, when will you do that?

My mechanic recommended 80k diffs and transfer case.
He recommended 150k for transmission, unless heavy towing. 100k

Sounds like good advice. I'll use those numbers.

I am thinking 90 or 100k, sounds safer to me.

Note that you can check if vehicle is level using dashboard offroad display.

Nice!

How many quarts of gear oil did you buy for the diffs and transfer case? With an electronic rear locker does it require different spec'd fluid like some of the older models? I think I saw a fluid spec sheet floating around on here, but can't seem to find it now.

Thanks in advance!
