I've seen a few threads with some valuable info. Hoping this thread will finalize a good plan for the best way to install a Wouxun KG-1000 Plus GMRS radio and antenna on my 2019 LR Disco L462.
What are the best avenues for wiring the radio to the battery? I read where someone wired their Midland to the fuse box, even though the manual said not to, but he hasn't had an issue for a year so far.
What are the best avenues for the antenna cable? What is the best location for the antenna?

I'm new to all this, so I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Also would appreciate any explanations as if I have the IQ of a chimpanzee. Thank you!

I have a Midland MXT525 50W GMRS wired into my disco. The manual did state to wire directly to the battery, but I have not had issues just running to the fuse box. Ground is to the body. Since the install for the radio itself is within the cockpit I was planning on extending some wires from the front passenger side to the battery area, running under the door sill plastic to the battery compartment, but it was not needed. For the antenna I initially ran it to the front of the vehicle mounting it on the hood with a clip mount and the wire passed through the door jam. Not ideal. When I installed the FR roof rack, I switched to a rack mounted option and ran the wire through the rear hatch under the seal. Towards the upper sides of the seal there is a small cutout in the door lip under the seal that I used to pass the wire through without putting stress on it like what happen when I ran it through the front. So far, no issues in 2 years with very good reception in this configuration.

I am looking at installing a CB in 2017 Disco. Can you share how you got your unit wired in under the AC controller? That is where I planned to locate mine, but can't work out how to get the cables through.

Chances are you have to drill to route under AC control. I would remove the cubby and investigate what's behind before drilling.

To route the wires in the HVAC area there is no need to drill BUT you will need to take both side of the area off to access where the wires can be fed through. Start by removing both side rails. The mounting bolts can be accessed by removing the lower kick panels on each side and then there are 2 - t25 (i hope i remember that correctly on the size) bolts to remove at the bottom of the rails. Once removed just simply pull back towards you and up. Now you have access to remove the sides to the HVAC control area. I used from fishing tape (coat hanger can be used) to move the wires through the area but do not force it as there are wire looms all over in this area. Also pay attention to the HVAC control panel if you have the hidden cubby there. You dont want to have anything in the way that might cause it to bind in operation. I passed power over using the route and then mounted my mic via an extension cable to the cubby.
