Default Loud clunk noise when shifting to D or R

Hi,

I noticed recently a clunk noise when shifting from D to R or the opposite it happens every time i shift between them, and sometimes when the gear changes at low speeds.

I lifted the car in the shop and checked underneath while charging the gear, i noticed nothing.

i also just changed the transfer case oil but nothing changed.

* the transmission shifting is smooth

model: Discovery 2018 HSE
mileage: 59k (95,000km)

Check the attached video, any thoughts? 🤔
note the clunk sound after the sound of the gear shift.

I’ve found the front axles can cause this. On the ground while making the noise look at the axles.

good luck

Sadly could be lots of things. Almost need it SAFELY on blocks and a buddy to shift it while you observe.

unfortunately if it’s the axles the wheels need to have a load on them to make the axle noise.

Ive diagnosed and remedied 2 D5s with a clunk while shifting as axles. Doesn’t mean that’s the OPs issue, but easy to diagnose.

I get the exact same sound but only when the car is warm. In the mornings when trans temp is low, no clunk.
May not be related, but a transmission fluid/pan change might not be a bad idea as well.
