Holy cow!! That is really surprising since it has to be work more than double that amount. Will you be able to pull off the bits you added?

This is one of the large problems I have with aluminum built unibody vehicles. They can’t take abuse and are incredibly expensive to repair.

Shouldnt a mud buggy be able to take a large amount of abuse?

I wouldn’t assume most of the cost is due to aluminum, the hood and fenders are bolt on and while they cost a little more it’s not like cutting out and welding in a rear corner.
more likely most of your cost comes from the LED headlights, all the sensors, and expensive front bumper cover and yes some work to the crossmembers and other structural bits. If the main structure or the panels were steel I doubt the bill would change much.
I’m surprised $16k is enough to total a 2017(?) Discovery though as that suggests they’re valuing it at less than $32k??
As long as I got a fair payout I’d prefer that than a heavily repaired vehicle anyway.

I wish it could take the abuse. But with no protection, its exposed. I plan on adding the A bar, It might have saved it from being totalled.

LED headlights $3200 each, 3 radiators, and ac condenser. front radar, all sensors.....plus more.

Pay out Is $46K....... Sticker priced $79,900 original......... KBB $43K+$5000 add ons.....

Sounds about right. With my insurance I added optional replacement cost protection.

I think this is an interesting take. My impression is that the A bar is mainly cosmetic based upon how it attaches to the vehicle. Isn't it simply two points down low and that the tubular sections aren't what attaches? I guess it depends on how robust the bracket is, but simply looking at it online, it doesn't look structural at all.

I'd love to learn differently.

I agree on the A bar being somewhat cosmetic.. I may try and add some added support on the bottom tubes.

Its all the protection that's available, that I can purchase so far.

Totally hear you. Can your friend "aftertheoverlandexperience" offer any insight into the A-bar? I'd love to know more.
