Am I being paranoid or is he just locking me in for a purchase and this thing could show up with a bunch of features which are currently listed on the LR website as standard features missing. Isn't that a blatant FTC violation?
The taking deposit before even quoting a build does seem odd, maybe used as a tactic to filter out buyers in your area? With no cars on lots, they are probably doing a lot of paper builds for anyone that is interested in looking. If their yield of people inquiring to actual purchase is low, I can see them doing this to reduce the upfront work.

There are a known set of options that are starting to run out/delaying builds due to the chip shortage from what I've been told:
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • 360 Surround Camera
  • Heads-up Display
  • Cabin Air Purification
  • Driver's TFT Display (they are bringing back analog cluster in 2023)
I don't believe they'll order a car on your behalf that shows up with missing options, thus I guess the build sheet on whats on it will be important. If it doesn't match on delivery, I think you can refuse and get your money back. If anything, your build with the 'approved' options selected will just keep delaying until they have the parts to build it.

So what I am told by the sales rep, the dealership was slotted by LR for the 23' build in November for floor sale models. They are going to replace one of their floor model slots with mine to make the sale happen. I mean who knows.

The whole need a deposit to put a build out in to see what options are available is odd to me. I mean not that a grand would cause me to foreclose on my house, but grand is a grand lol.

That is a substantial amount of options you listed that if they showed up missing would be a hefty bill.

Adaptive Cruise Control - $1000
3D Surround Camera - Would guess $750
Drivers TFT Display - Would guess $750

For what its worth, all 3 of those options still shown as standard on the 23' per website.

Totally hear you lol. I'm surprised though they can still make build changes this late for a Nov. build though. Unless it's a Nov cutoff for a later build.

Yeah, most of those options are still available in the land rover website builder but then when you order from the dealer they will tell you whether they can fulfill it in the build sheet. I wanted to add the Air Purification option and the dealer told me they can't put it in my build as limited by their internal order system.

Well, crappy but at least that is an add-on option. Not to minimize your loss lol

Would be for delivery in March, but who knows what the real story is.

I don't have a car in my driveway yet so who knows lol

I can't imagine taking delivery a car without some of the standard options. Things like surround camera would be a deal breaker. Plus, I don't think they can ship without a reverse camera legally in the US anymore.

Oh I agree. If it is listed in standard features, then it better be there.

Sales rep did say the one thing he was worried about was the 360 camera but it would come with a reverse camera. I did not know reverse cameras were required in the US now.

I was watching a video on youtube last night of a review and they mentioned the 360 camera only goes on if you prompt it. I had though if you were pulling into a garage it automatically went on.

So I was asked to pay a ‘refundable’ £1000 deposit for the order I made. They did say they were trying to filter out time wasters.
Also I’m not sure what the used car market is like in the US but I’ve had a look in the UK and a 12 month old Disco with a similar spec is about £6-8k more than new list price. So if your build isn’t as expected you may well be able to sell it on for a few quid more than you pay.
I know we’d rather be driving the new cars we ordered but it’s a bit of an insurance policy. Fingers crossed they come through in good time.

Was pretty much my thought there is definitely a market to move them here in the US. Used car market in the US is scorching right now.

Surprised you have to custom order over there in the UK, you'd think Discovery's would be pretty common. It has been weeks since I have seen a Disco 5 on the road here in the US and I live in the suburbs of NYC. Plenty of Range Rovers, wonder how bad Disco sales are.

Maybe I should have bought 2 and flipped one No really..
