Long time LR owner here as well. I decided to roll the dice on the diesel as well. I liked the idea of all that torque and fuel economy. About 4 weeks ago we got ours and it has 37k miles on it now. Already had to replace a particulate sensor. My local LR shop is telling me they are seeing less issues with the Diesel. I work from home so it won’t get driven a ton but I plan to do the weekly or every other week long drive.

during my search I found a different TD6 at a used car lot but they said I can’t quite buy it as it was at the dealer having the DPF replaced under the 8yr/80k warranty.

New to the LR brand but here's my experience so far.

Bought my 2020 CPO Td6 D5 in Sept 2023 @ 27K miles. Kudos to several members here who guided me during the purchase decision.
My local LR specialist noticed a minor coolant leak, which Cerritos LR dealer took care of under warranty.
I just finished a 1,000 mile road-trip across NV & AZ and the D5 proved to be an awesome family vehicle.

The coolant issue didn't scare me since I've owned several VWs . Completed an oil analysis for a baseline as well.

i bought a 2019 Discovery TD6, in April 2023, with 80k kms on it. now i have a 102k kms on it and just got it back after a $6,600 repair to replace the exhaust crossover pipe to address the exhaust leak that resulted in diesel fumes in the cabin. After a trip to eastern Canada and Canyon Lands National Park in Utah it is a fun, comfortable, and extremely capable vehicle. i like the vehicle but between depreciation, poor dealers, and repairs it has been a financial disaster. Expect the worst hope for the best or buy a Toyota.

What's an exhaust crossover pipe. And how can that cost 6000? Interested to know what the issue was and why an exhaust shop couldn't just fabricate a fix or patch it?

You need a good independent shop - dealers can be expensive.

The crossover exhaust pipe runs between the two exhaust manifolds on the TD6. within the insulated cover on the crossover pipe are 2 flex pipes- The right side flex pipe was leaking. at first it was only noticeable during cold start up when the cabin diesel exhaust smell was strong however as time passed it became worse and with the hood open the diesel exhaust would rise up from the back of the engine. my local exhaust shop diagnosed the problem and was keen to do the repair- however they needed me to supply the parts. The parts were difficult to source and i finally found a LR Dealer who had all the parts in stock. The exhaust shop started the job but needed an LR tool to remove the front prop shaft as the front and rear prop shafts need to be removed to lower the engine as there is no working room between the back of the engine and the firewall to work on the crossover exhaust pipe.

i have 3 dealers within an 90 minute drive however only one of them is competent IMHO. The acceptable dealer had previously done this repair on another Discovery 5 and insisted it was a 25 hour repair. I explained the LR shop manual said removing the prop shafts and tilting the engine down towards the rear gives access to the crossover pipe and 8 hours was a more reasonable time for the work. The dealer said they knew what was required to get the job done and it would be 25 hours. in the end it was 22 hours and parts were $1400 with the pipe itself being $1000. $6600 Canadian $ all in including 13% tax. so $5000 USD.

i am doing all my own maintenance because i like to and the dealer’s maintenance prices are ridiculous. There will be jobs i cannot do on my own so yes i do need a good independent shop!

Thank you for sharing your experience; definitely good for the community to know possible issues.

Wow - that's an amazingly involved repair for a crossover pipe. Thanks for sharing
As you say that one is hard to DIY...

Wishing you better luck after this. Mine is running at about 90k miles now after 5 years and I've not had any issues beyond standard maintenance and a couple of early teething problems like the leaky windscreen fixed on warranty.
Enjoy driving!
