They're diagnosing it as a dent in the transmission heat shield causing vibration noise. The shield is a two piece component, so the rattling is likely between that...$850. I'm a skeptical that's the only issue since the rover had a CEL come on and lost power going up a hill...

Replacement shield is $155 out the door and shipped on Ebay...any videos on attaching these? I'm assuming it's straight forward.

Seems like a little bump

What kind of wrenches do you use to get enough torque to remove the bolts? Air powered wrench? They are locked down really tight. Got a couple of, but a few are recessed too.

I've been hammering on this shield, it's solid as a rock. No signs of vibration. The damage is half as deep as a dime 🤔

PS your rock sliders do look beefy!

I hammered a whole lot more (literally with my fist) and found there was a vibration noise behind the impact mark. I also noticed that two screw holes were missing screws and it looks like that screw fastens the inner layer to the outer layer. Makes sense of vibrate if there's no screw to fasten it together. I relocated one of the screws there and it stopped vibrating when I hit it. Any reason why these would not have screws in them, especially after being in the shop? It looks like screws belong here and we're freshly there recently, given the lack of patina on the metal around the bolt head area.

To break em free, you might need a 1/2 drive with a breaker bar/pipe extension . ( and or 1/2 impact)
A 4 to 6 inch extension is needed to reach the recessed ones.

From your picture, that tiny dent , seems unlikely to make a noise.

The saga continues. I still love em LOL.

If we need a breaker bar to remove those bolts someone as overtightened them.

Sometimes after I've removed and replaced the skid plates they creak while turning the steering wheel when stationary. There's enough relative motion between the unibody, body mounted brackets, and subframe that the plates bolt to to cause it. Anyone ever experience?

I will say last repair dealer did for me, later when I went to do my oil change, I noticed they left off 2 bolts in my front skid plate.

My advisor shipped me 2 new bolts.

That's good to know!

I had to hack apart a kids trike to find an aluminum tube that would work as a breaker bar 😂 a bit tight. My impact driver wasn't getting them to budge.
