Supercharger Woes 2018 Discovery SCV6
Do you have any videos that detail the snout diagnosis or replacement that I could look at? I'll dig into that. Bear Valley is a great shop! I used to go there with my LR3 when I lived in Atlanta.
The one snout video I found said it's a pretty clunky noise at idle too. I've got no discernable problematic noises at idle or revving in neutral.

Found this link - https://www.reddit.com/r/RangeRover/...ore_and_after/ I’m sure there are more out there on YT and Reddit. Read up on it cause I seem to find that it often shows itself under acceleration or load, similar to your noise
Is this a normal engine sound at idle? I've been told it always has a metallic clicking noise. Sounds like it has always sounded to me. It goes back into the shop on Monday.

Hear the typical noise from direct injection (loud on all 5.0 and SCV6). There is a slightly different noise at the end which is what you may be referring to. Don’t hear any timing chain noise. Let us know what the shop says!

Frequent oil changes have been proven to prevent the timing chain issues. I did 5k intervals on my LR4 in the ten years I had it and when I sold it with 95k miles the timing chains were in perfect shape. You can see them if you remove the oil cap. Poke the chains with a screwdriver, and if there is a lot of slack when you poke it, its time for new chain guides.
it sounds the same at idle.
5:20 below gives a very clear sound clip of the broken supercharger snout coupler. Thankful I'm not having this noise. Also confirmed that is not producing any abnormal noise with an automotive stethoscope yesterday.

Got it back from the dealer. They continue to say it is spark knock and I need to run more cleaner though it. If that doesn't fix it in 5 or 6 full tanks, I need to consider selling it before there's a catastrophic failure or I can replace the engine (...
)
I got a new tool to get much higher quality images inside the engine! Dual-Lens Articulating Borescope, DXZtoz Endoscope Camera with 0.33in Two- Way Articulated Snake Camera, 5'' Dual Screen, 1080P Inspection Camera with Light for Automotive Home Mechanics-5FT WOW it's really good! Highly recommend this over a $30 tool. Huge difference. It can twist and turn + a 2nd camera on the side of the probe for a 2nd view.
How do these cylinders look to y'all? Should they be dinner plate clean or is this a normal amount of buildup? I don't know what is normal...

PS - I called Bear Valley Land Rover and they said they would give me a sniff test on the diagnosis over the phone after I sent over pics/videos. No response back. 2 hours is a long way to go for a 2nd opinion

- I see some gunk in there. No signs of physical damage. Cylinder walls look clean Is this normal? excessive?
- there is a lot of gunk in the exhaust behind the valves. I watched Savagegeese's Con's of direct injection and they described exactly this problem!
- clean walls, black piston head. The piston was up, not much room to move the camera. Valve covers look pretty clean
Left cylinders - https://photos.app.goo.gl/PGDvT7rJ3Fas2PaSA
- they look much cleaner overall. I can even read words and see a QR code on the piston!
- the noise I'm hearing seems to only be coming from the drivers side...
