Default Td6 Camshaft Timing Belt Maintenance

I noticed in the current D5 Td6 Maintenance Checksheet that the camshaft timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley should be replaced at 7 years or 112,000 miles (I assume this includes both front and rear camshaft timing belts). Even though my D5 has only 58,500 miles, it's been 7 years since I took delivery. Has anyone had this done? What is the cost for parts and labor for this job, and how critical is it that it be done soon, given the low mileage? Thanks for any advice!

@ar077 Here’s a link to when I priced all of this out independently back in January:

I did not replace the fuel timing belt because everything I’ve read online has mentioned it isn’t necessary and most of the time when they get replaced the belt is in great condition. From my understanding if the fuel belt were to fail you’d have to be towed, but wouldn’t be catastrophic to the engine. The exact opposite with the timing belt.

Much thanks, mtaylo32! So the camshaft timing belt is at the front of the engine and the fuel timing belt is at the back of the engine, right? I knew that a camshaft belt failure would be catastrophic but it's good to know that a fuel belt failure wouldn't grenade the engine.

Did you have a water pump failure or did you decide to install a new one because it was low hanging fruit (labor-cost wise) during camshaft belt remove-and-replace?

Happy to help! Yes, camshaft/timing is at the front and the fuel pump belt is at the back.

Just be sure to have pins for to hold the gears in place if you are doing the timing belt yourself. I can send over the instructions if you need them to do the whole job. Just let me know.

I did not have a water pump failure. Just figured while we were in there replacing parts and it had to be taken out that I might as well replace to save some $ and I was able to find a genuine water pump on eBay for a great price. I’d recommend doing it while you’re in there!

Can you attach the instructions to a thread post? Thanks!

Thanks! Good to know what's involved but I'll have it done by the dealer. Won't be cheap but should include at least a short-term parts-and-labor warranty.
