Completed the front timing belt yesterday and it was pretty easy. Biggest hassle was the coolant on the garage floor. Did all the timing pullies as well as the accessory belt idlers and tensioner. I skipped the water pump the bearing felt great, I did do the t-stat just cuz. I bought a Chinese belt tool kit, which was a little sketch, but it worked. Tons of room to work in the engine compartment was a treat.

How hard was it to lock the fly wheel?

It was easy. The Chinese tool Didn't fit into the flexplate as snug as it should but it worked good enough. I was pleased how easy the starter is to remove

That's good to know. I'm on the fence about changing it. My indy shop will do the job for a grand, parts and labor.

My 2017 Td6 will be 8 years old in June but it has less than 64000 miles on the clock. Is timing belt wear time-sensitive or mileage-sensitive?

I'm not sure about our TD6 engine on time. But my VW is 130K miles or 10 yrs, which ever come first.

I will ask my indy shop next time I talk to them.

I managed to find the Ford F150 instructions for this but not the Land Rover instructions - does anyone have access to these? Thanks!
