Default For those who tuned their TD6...

I know there have been a couple of threads on here about tuning or "chipping" their TD6's and since these were fairly new vehicles, much of it was "do I, or don't I".

Now that some time has passed, I'd love to know from those who "did" what their real world experiences have been.

Reliability? Effect on MPG?, Throttle lag? Overall value?

Thanks for helping out a fence-sitter!

I was waiting to post a full review of the item, but I purchased a Chip Express Tuning Box and have had it installed for about 2 weeks and about 600 miles. I will develop some quantifiable comparisons based on my testing, but here are the butt dyno results so far:

No reliability problems at all - don't even notice it is there, until you push the accelerator pedal.

No negative impact on MPG, but I do find it more fun to stab the accelerator pedal - so the fun factor is up and my fuel economy may be down slightly based on my driving style (less than 0.5 MPG)

Throttle lag is still there, but it has been significantly reduced and the accelerator response seems greatly enhanced, especially under partial throttle.

Overall value seems reasonable (about $500) and you can do all the install at home and readily remove in a few minutes or use the blanking plug - not detectable. Product quality is very high too - very well constructed.

I am still testing the unit and have not optimized it for power and it is on the factory setting right now. However, it feels quicker and more responsive across the board and it pulls better to redline before shifting under hard acceleration. I am compiling data and when I have more time I will complete testing and post before and after results in a separate post.

Thanks for this and I look forward to further updates.

Before you got the Chip Express, what others did you consider and what drove your ultimate decision?

I assume that yours is a "piggyback" system and not a re-flash like Velocity AP is? Any advantages/disadvantages to either that you considered?

Cheers.

I found the options pretty limited. I looked at Race Chip, but the claims and reviews don't seem to match up very well so they were ruled out. I also looked at some reflash options, but they are inconvenient, hard to undo without a visit to a retailer, and easily traced by service departments - warranty void, and more expensive which did not make much sense. My system is a piggy back unit for about $500 and while it may not generate the power of a reflash, it can be removed and made untraceable in about 5 minutes at home. That will not happen with a reflash. Happy shopping - and delivery takes 10-14 days.
