Thoughts on deal
Looking at a 2018 Discovery HSE Si6 demo. List is $69,800 and it has 5K miles. I can get it for $61K. Good or bad deal? I thought it was pretty good given the fact that nobody comes off the sticker of these much at all.
I looked around web and any used 2018 had more miles, less equipment and was about same price.
"Could have been 5000 miles of abuse." Or it may have been babied for 5k. That could be true of any "new" vehicle with any miles on it. I have driven cars pretty hard on test drives.
I am very picky. There are no signs of wear anywhere. I had no idea it was a demo until the salesman told me. I think it was a good deal and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

I specifically say that because "demo" vehicle includes Land Rover Experience fleet vehicles which they swap out for new ones right around that mileage. These cars spend all day at idle speed, with short bursts of high rev, and hardly accrue miles but the engine wear metric would be in how many hours they are run not miles. The instructors I have spoken to say they wouldn't want an ex-experience vehicle. They know exactly how much wear and tear goes into these cars. They are taken back to LR and cleaned up, damage repaired, wheels swapped if necessary etc. but the underlying question is drivetrain and engine wear.
Imagine a newer vehicle that has done 5000 miles of off road only driving on their courses. The savings you cite above just would not justify it for me.

It's Corris Grey and was only used by staff and sometimes as a loaner. Plus, no way my salesman would have left out that info. He's a good guy. Only second time ever I have enjoyed the car buying experience.
