Talking Disco Newbie in Michigan

Hi! I am new to the ranks of LR Disco owners! I just picked up a 2000 Discovery with 119k miles. The previous owners took very good care of the vehicle, with a lot of up to date repairs and fixes. They have a spare engine that they said I could get parts off of if I wanted to. I really don't know what parts I might need to take from the engine. Are there any suggestions as to which engine parts may come in handy down the road that I can ask them for? Thanks!

Make them an offer on the whole engine. About the only part you could easily use would be the starter or a sensor. This assumes normal failure. But engines do die and have problems. Storing an engine with open ports on it, no oil circulating, etc., for a long time is not doing any good.

Thanks! I ended up scavenging a bunch of parts both from the engine and some accessories.

I am in East Lansing, MI. It'd be good to network with some of the folks in the area. I just bought the 2000 Disco II and I am loving it. The previous owners took really good care of it, They were meticulous and the husband is a mechanic. He pretty much kept it running smoothly. Reading about all of the horror stories has me a bit nervous though. I have some mechanical skills, and I also have an excellent Shady Tree mechanic, but I'd like to meet someone here in Michigan that has a history of working on Rovers. Can you all suggest anyone?
