Happy Disco owner in Cali
Well I've been lurking around on this forum since December '12 since I first thought about buying a disco. I settled on a 2000 Disco II SE7 with 150K miles that I found on craigslist for $1000 in Fresno, CA. It's got a straight body and new tires. He said the radiator was leaking but it was just the little return line to the expansion tank. Heater has been bypassed but the AC blows cold, and that is more important to me here in the central valley of CA. Besides the passenger window and some funniness with the locks (and the three amigos) all the electrical is good.
I then went on to spend $250 on back tags and $500 to smog it, $250 on new brakes all around, $150 on passenger side window, been working on Disco Mike's service checklist. ABS Amigo was the best investment I've made. Fixed the shuttlevalve problem, now I have "Front Right Sensor Bad Output". It miraculously goes away after fording thru deep enough water. Once things dry up then the ABS Amigo reset only lasts 100 yds. This thing kept up with some pretty tricked out Jeeps when the traction control was working!
My main goal with this thing is just to have fun in it. I've got a wife and three kids under six and they love it! Next steps: New front prop shaft, new bumpers, lift kit, bigger tires, possibly the CDL kit, possible snorkel kit, then a winch, then rock sliders, then some skid plates.... I should quit sooner than later.
I would just like to say thanks for the wealth of information that I have gleaned from this website! Thanks to those that have contributed so much for inexperienced DIYers like myself. I'm planning to do what I have time for myself, the rest can go to the local LR mechanic (he's got a british accent so he must know what he's doing
)
