Default Hello from San Francisco

Hello All,
Just purchased a 1998 Land Rover Discovery got it for $1300 good deal I think.
Body is in perfect shape. Engine has 143,000 but the PO has had the Head gaskets changed at 84,000 it needs a water pump which I will put in this Saturday along with a new fan while I'm at it . I look forward to learning as much as I can here.
Thanks,
Nick

Welcome!

San Francisco is a great city; I lived there for several years before moving to the Seattle area. And, my 97 Disco originated from British Motors in SF!

New fan clutch as well, there is a write up in tech area for a Chevy 2000 express van, 4.3 liter, w/o AC that bolts right up, about $60. 180F thermostat would be on my list as well. You'l be ready for Lombard Street, then a quick trip across the bridge and on the the Muir Woods.

I got to the water pump a little sooner than expected. Last night after work all went well until I discovered the gasket glued to the timing chain cover. Is this normal scraping it off is no fun.

Got it finished last night. So excited, the old one was so bad if i did start the Rover it sounded like it would blow up any second. I bought the car like that and was overjoyed at how quiet the engine is with the new pump, clutch and fan.
