Default Impulse buy

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and I'm new to landrovers. I've just bought a 2001 Freelander 1.8 ES with 52k on the clock. Perhaps foolishly it was an impulse buy, the deal being done within 20 minutes of first seeing the car. I did not do any research and I didn't know anything about the vehicles. Unfortunately it broke down on the way home from the garage when one of the rear prop shaft bearings collapsed. The garage are doing the repair without any quibbling but i have been reading some of the comments on this forum site and I'm startled by the amount of critisism that the 1.8 freelander gets. Please can somebody reassure me thatI haven'tbought a white elephant.
