Default LR3/4 owner, thinking about a Disco, seeking advice.

Hi all !

I currently have an LR4 (well, OK, it's the wife's soccermom-mobile) and had my own LR3 some years ago (awesome car). I live in North Carolina, where regular cars spontaneously explode when they come into contact with snow, so I'm contemplating getting a winter car for me, myself & I (my little rear-wheel drive convertible is more sled than car in this weather).

The series I Discovery seems very weather-capable, but I am not mechanically inclined. The price point sure beats a Defender, but some of the posts I've seen make me concerned that it would be in the shop much of the year?

I want something that get me over hill and dale in any weather as a daily driver, but can be parked for a few weeks at a time during summer. Am I better off getting a MBZ G-Wagen or maybe just a cheapo Jeep CJ-7? A Subaru beater ?

I've already read through much of the very helpful info in the Discovery Series I Tech Section (Major Service, What to look for, Comparison, etc.). Any additional advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers all !
