Default New Owner with no LR experience

Good morning from central Kentucky. I just traded for a 1999Discovery II with lots of issues...the previous owner had given up on it and it was headed to the crusher...I traded him a car to crush with the idea of trying to rescue this truck. I've never owned one so I plan on doing a lot of reading before I begin to pester you folks. cosmetically the truck appears to be in decent shape but according to the previous owner, the transmission had be stuck in "limp home" mode for sometime and so the truck had been relegated to use on the farm. recently the battery went bad on the truck and since then it has also refused to start---hense the reason for the intended trip to the crusher. I am an auto hobbist with several vehicles I play with however I have never owned any Land Rovers before...I am looking forward to learning a lot about these things........Dan

Welcome, in my signature you will find links to download for free the whole shop manual series, with owner manuals also, called the RAVE. When you get a new fully charged battery in it check for spark at the plugs, and post back with us. This will occupy plenty of time.

BTW - born in Richmond.

Richmond, Ky? I'm about as far north of Lexington as Richmond is south---Stamping Ground. I have downloaded both the RAVE and Discovery II service manuals. I have no spark so I plan to take a look at the crankshaft sensor as soon as possible as a startiing point.....Dan

Here is an extra set of pages on the sensor, if no sparks, and you decide to swap it; plug in new one, let it hang, while you mount it. Every little nut and spacer must go back on the same way.

Great country between Louisville and Lexington, fast women and beautiful horses, and where the size of a man's wallet is displayed by how much fieldstone can be stacked to build property walls and fences.

I am new to these trucks also. So far this is the best truck I have ever owned (2004 SE7). I am having a good time learning about it and tinkering. I am tackling the transfer case inspection cover leak this morning. Good luck with your project. It will be worth it in the end!!! Download the service manual it has everything you will ever need.
