Smile New Range Rover Owner!

I'm officially the unfortunate owner of a 2001 P38A Range Rover. V8 4.6l

yay!

Been tinkering on vehicles for a long time, my ex had a 4runner that we worked on together for years and before that I rebuild a Jeep Cherokee. So not completely inept.
Bought this thing off of a retired railway worker who just couldn't be bothered anymore to deal with the issues. The notorious airbag suspension system not working. Rear driver side bag leaks. other than that it is in pretty good shape aside from the various cosmetic issues. All electronics seem to work as intended. For $1800CAD i think i got quite the steal.

I have a few things I really need to look into and hopefully i can find someone on here who can help, or even a thread that has similar issues.

Engine flutter when idle only really noticeable when in Drive with my foot on the breaks, REVs bounce between about 7-10 but only intermittently. Check engine light is on, but i can't read the codes. (I'm a student and can't really afford an OBD reader that can translate the protocol). And yeah... the air bag suspension. Apparently the pump runs, and all but one bag holds air, but previous owner said that for some reason the system just wouldn't move air into the bags. I'm gonna start with replacing the leaking bag first before tackling the main issue. As of right now the fuse is taken out so the pump doesn't burn itself out. any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome here to a fellow Canadian P38 owner! The P38 is an excellent vehicle, but they do like to make sure you spend time with them. I’m glad that you’re opting to keep the air suspension and not switch to coils. The main issue with the EAS is mechanical air leaks, not electronic issues. I’m pretty sure that you will end up needing some sort of code reader in the not too distant future. Your EAS will complain about the leaks and completely shut down until you clear the code. RSW Solutions has a cheap reader (software plus cable) that will do most of what you need. Otherwise you will need something like a Nanocom which is excellent but pricey. Good luck with it!
