Should I buy my wife a Land Rover LR2?
I fully admit I know nothing about Land Rovers. I love the way they look, but all anyone ever says is that they're terrible cars. I don't drive an SUV anyway, so I never looked into them. My wife is now looking to replace her old XJ Cherokee, and found a 2008 LR2, and she really seems to like it.
I did some research, and saw that JD Power listed it as "among the best" for reliability. It got high marks overall actually. But then there's a footnote saying, "Due to low sales volume, these rankings may not portray actual real world results, due to small sample sizes." So now I'm back to my skeptical self.
So I thought I'd turn to the experts, and see what you guys thought. Is this a worthwhile car? Admittedly, she'll spend most of the time driving it to work, but we do take many a cross-country trip up into the mountains, and through some pretty sketchy passes. The road up to Colchuk Lake, in Western Washington is a good example. It's a road, but not much of one. My BMW would never have made it for sure.
The car is a 2008, with 85k miles. It has bluetooth, heated leather, and maybe nav. I haven't heard back whether it does or not. It looks like it does, but the ad doesn't mention it. The dealer is asking $10,500 for it. Is that fair? Is there anything I should know? Should I avoid it like the plague, or is this a good car?
I'd also love to hear some reviews from anyone who has one. Or has had one. I'd love to get some idea of what you think of it. It's not the Defender that I dream to own, but will my wife be happy, or is this going to be a maintenance queen?

I believe, if it's a 2008...it would be a LR3. A totally different animal than the Discovery ll (Dll).
I'd driven a couple LR3's, prior to buying or 03 (Dll), and found them very comfortable and smooth as silk (ride wise). Really, really, really, wish we would have got the LR3, now.
Brian.

Ah, no, it's an LR2 which is an updated Freelander without the gas engine problems of the Freelander. The mileage is good, the price is about average I'd offer $9500 and see if they'll accept it. Does it come with a warranty or is it a private sale?
