Which is more practical and better all around for BSA camping? P38 or 2003-04 Disco?
#21
If you look around there are companies that have so called performance tunes where you would send them the ecu and they program it. I cant endorse this since i haven't tried it. With emission laws changing every day you never know if what they program into it will be emissions compliant.
Turner engineering in the uk offers a performance camshaft. You could inquire about and decide for yourself but its a job to replace a cam.
I think you'll find when test driving a disco 2 4.6 if you put the trans in sport mode and leave it there it will have a little more pep to get you into and out of trouble so to speak.
You're going to have to decide what the right price for you is.. I would suspect they are adding some kind of extended warranty into the deal. if so read the fine print and understand what they are selling you and what it covers.
If you haven't found this website yet take a look at it. lots of good info..

I put a supercharger on my boss' 97 d90. it made quite a difference.
Turd to not quite a turd...
I couldn't talk him into building the engine right and overdriving it tho..
He towed it behind his camper anyway..
Problem is the company Chariots of Fire that designed this stuff, is no longer in business.
It's gonna be tough to find one to bolt on and just adds another dimension of issues
You might want to investigate the camshaft thru Turner. From what i've read they know and build Land Rover engines.
Nothing for nothing Land Rover and Peformance (HP) are not really synonymous unless you're talking 2010+ LR4, Sport, Range, and of course Supercharged Sport or Range.
Maybe some other forum members can chime in here with their experiences...

Another one is: Home page
Look at the price of the upgraded heads: Upgrades - Triumph Rover Spares South Australia
You should read this one: Tuning the Rover V8
You could get a LPG rover kit from here: "RPi Engineering - Specialised Rover Engines"
There is one more really awesome website out there but I can't find it. They offer high performance cams, lifters, etc for our land rovers. Its a UK site. I know I have seen it on here. The site itself sucks, really hard to read etc. But they do have a lot of cool stuff.
Hope this was helpful!

I think I'm going to leave the drive train alone, a performance V8 is $9,200 and that's too much, and I don't really want to screw around with the existing engine, whether it be taking the camshaft off or replacing the cylinder heads. So I'll move on to another topic, this being inspecting the vehicle when I go look at it. I've already learned about the famed Head Gasket and SLS air spring problems, but are there any other things I should look at either during inspection with myself, a mechanic, or on the vehicle's service records (If it has any service records, in case of that, forget it.)
