Series IIa shifter popped out

Series IIa shifter popped out

Anyone have the shifter pop out into their hands? There's grease on both the base and the bottom face of the stick, so it certainly does not appear to be sheared metal. Any way to reinsert these?

The shifter has a ball on the end with a little spring clip. I've only had them break.
