Default Soft Dash AC compressor noise

HI, Since I bought the car (94 Soft dash V8 LSE), I have had noise coming from the AC compressor. The noise is only present when the AC is switched on. At first, its quiet and I get cold air.
As (i guess) pressure builds up, the compressor emits a roaring sound. As I'm not tooloed up for AC work, I took it to my village garage who diagnosed and changed the high pressure switch.

Unfortunately, its not cured the problem, its just cutting in and out more often, I guess, when it reaches the high pressure limit.
There is no play in the compressor, I took off and changed the serpentine belt, no bearing noise when rotating either by hand or engine running, so the clutch is fine. And no noise when engaged until 30s or so when high pressure is reached.
Before i wade in and change the compressor, which I don't think is the issue), I thought that the Receiver dryer could be choked up and causing the over-pressure. Problem is I cannot find it anywhere on the car. On Rimmer parts, the RD is only listed up to VIN 347000 which I think is the cutoff for hard dash.

Has anyone any expereince with the system and could advise? I'd really love to have working AC... Its getting hot here again!
