2015 Range Rover Evoque - Transmission issues
Good friend of mine wrecked her car and bought a used 2015 Evoque about 2.5 years ago - there were low miles but she has had nothing but trouble with it. After dealing with major repairs including a timing chain issue which ran $6K - the transmission failed when she was driving on the highway a couple of weeks ago. She got towed to Land Rover in Manhattan and they said that they would have to replace the transmission modulator - and that would cost $8K - and that it might not even work. Next step would be to replace the transmission completely.
I know Range Rovers are expensive to work on - but when I google this I find that this should cost $2K and a new transmission should cost $3500. I know this is Manhattan so it will be more expensive due to hourly labor - but is the dealer trying to screw her?
I've told her to get the car towed to a dealer in NJ and get a second opinion. The car isn't even worth more than $9K on KBB.
Thoughts?

These cars are trash and the service department is a criminal organization.
The repairs over the course of a year exceeded the cost of the vehicle.
ALL GENUINE PARTS ARE A SCAM. You can get the same exact part, by the same exact manufacturer, and it would cost you less than 1/2 the price just because it doesn’t have the logo of the car’s make on it. SAME EXACT!
Repairs over 1 year 4 months:
New front brakes and rotors. Brakes still making weird noises that were complained about after changed. Right front dust shield scraping after brakes changed.
New Turbo
Front right coil spring
Coolant leak
Timing chain
New Engine (Oil leaking immediately after new engine installed, not repaired yet)
Leaking windshield (they resealed and only made it worse)
Front left CV Joint
Gear shift module
Engine cooling fan module
Mirror house fell apart while driving.
Fuse panel keeps randomly falling off
driver side door rocker trim keeps popping off
If I wanted to spend this much $, I would have bought new! Could have paid for a Ferrari for what this piece of junk cost me over the past year.
They blame my driving. Not sure how driving habit make a windshield leak, gear shift module lock, pieces fall off, etc and not to mention turbo and coolant leak was only a week after purchase.
