Default Roof Rack

First post; hope I am in the right place....

My wife has a 2008 LR RR (NOT THE SPORT) with the supercharged V8 engine

for lack of a better term the roof appears to have gutters on which to mount a roof rack

I am aware I can goto Thule or whatever and construct one using their website

That being said - at one time - LR offered a rack - again for lack of a better term - that was flush or nearly flush to the top of the roof

You see my wife is short and I highly doubt she will get much use out of a rack that is elevated several more inches above the roof

if she stands in the door wells she can reach the roof ok but a few inches of riser combined with a few more inches of roof rack side I am afraid will be too much for her

So I am wondering if that flush-ish roof rack is still made by anyone

SEEMS THAT IT IS CALLED THE INTEGRATED RAIL SYSTEM

The 2008 catalog had a rack for a whopping $1500 / I have to believe someone else makes it for a lot less

Best I can say is, what do you want out of the rack? Roof tent? Cargo? Skiis? Just a place to throw some lights? Kayaks? Best to figure out what you want to haul, then pick the best rack for it. I have an expedition rack for a MK3/L322 sitting in the shop.... not sure if I want it gone though haha

Voyager's racks are really good looking. About a grand though.

Would like a rack mainly to haul cargo/supplies to the beach. We drive on to the beach and typically bring stuff like a gas grill, coolers, sun shelters, beach chairs, food, boogie boards for kids. that sorta thing.

Seems like I need the "kit" that includes the bars the run front to back on the roof as well as the bars that run crosswise. Once I install those I need to figure out what basket type rack I want. Attaching the rack to the bars ... somehow... lol ... Sound right?

The bars with cross bars works great for Thule boxes, tents, kayaks and the lot. The basket style like Voyager work for boxes that you store and lights.. Kinda like pelican cases. Imagination and money is the limit haha.

If your on a budget perhaps check out junkyard inventories. Maybe they have a RR with a rack? Otherwise most new racks are going to be expensive because the RR isn't all that common of a vehicle. Another thing I would try is to see if your RR dealership or better yet a private shop that does lots of RR knows of anyone who may want to sell their rack. Do you have a local Range Rover Club? Attend a meeting... word of mouth can work wonders.

Default Roof rack

Thanks. I will keep searching. I really am interested in the new defender roof rack and seeing if I am capable of fabricating that. Appreciate the response.

voyager roof rack is the one I have been looking for. I am unclear if it is the one listed in the catalog for 2008 or what but she is the one for me at least. The other racks I have found involve getting 4 "towers" and 2 bars and THEN attaching a roof rack to that setup. The Voyager rack - to me - seems like a much more simple, elegant solution. Its not cheap at around $1,100 but - f*ck it - you only live once...
