Default Revs to 4k rpm and immediately shuts off plus total battery drain

ARGHHHH. Thank you in advance. I have learned ALOT from this forum, and am so appreciative to have access to this awesome resource!

20O6 Range Rover Sport HSE: current issue/s are 1. I turn the key and it instantly revs up around 4k rpms then comes down and shuts off, and no, my foot is not on the accelerator/gas pedal. But as it is coming back down, I cannot get it to stay on by giving it gas; the accelerator is extremely sensitive and causes it to surge again and then dies. It dies after surging, even if I don't do anything. 2. Battery drains after just a few minutes with the key on. It is less than 12 months old, and never had an issue until problem #1 started last week.

Background: so last week it started having an issue where if I had been driving it and turned it off for a few minutes, once I started it again it didn't want to stay running. Had to use both pedals to get it out of park, and then it was fine. So a friend stopped by while I was out and took a look at it. And the next day when I tried to drive it the battery was TOTALLY dead and once I charged it, it then started doing the surge and shut off described above. That "friend" has not been able to stop by again to show me what he did or looked at, so I'm completely in the dark. I have looked for a hose or clamp or plug or sensor that he may have left off, and I can't see anything.

So I am frustrated and feeling like its likely something fairly simple, just not for me right now...
