Warranty Denies Engine Replacement Despite Proof of Maintenance
One day while driving my 2019 Range Rover Sport HSE it started progressively misfiring, conveniently in front of my driveway. To prevent further damage I parked the car and called a tow truck. After JLR did a compression test they notified me that it needs an engine replacement & as I expected, the warranty needed maintenance records. I sent a spreadsheet of all the maintenance I’ve done to the car with dates, mileage, and part numbers (only 2 oil & filter changes since I’ve had the car for less than 2 years), along with odometer photos that show the dates on the digital dash, receipts for the parts & oil that have the part numbers and same dates on the spreadsheet & dashboard along with past coolant leak repair invoices I’ve had done under warranty. Despite having this documentation, my claim for a $40k engine replacement was denied due to me being unable to show a shop invoice for the oil changes (I had my own oil changes done). If I’m not mistaken, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits my claim from being denied for this given I provided detailed records. Does anyone have any experience dealing with anything like this?
Add’l information: Oil was Castrol 0w-20 from AutoZone, 1st oil change filter was from the dealer’s parts department, 2nd time around was STP XL oil filter from AutoZone due to the dealership being closed on the day that I had the service done. Reason for compression failure hasn’t been investigated by the dealer.
