Only two dealers in the state though, Grand Rapids and Detroit.
Spike Ive actually been seriously considering relocating to Michigan for other unrelated personal interests... I really like where the state is positioned in regards to all the lakes. I imagine they have some mighty fine tasting fish up there to . Never realized there were so many rovers there are you said above. Might just give it a try one day. How are the taxes? How are the gun laws there?

The main reason I stay in New Hampshire is because theres no sales tax, auto insurance is not mandatory, gun laws are more lienyet and in general NH filks are more laid back it seems... But not many rovers and not many people here and not much fish....

What kind of fish do you like? Steel head? Rainbow trout? Bass? Sturgeon? Sunfish? Catfish? Dogfish? Crayfish? Carp?
You name it we have it.
Car insurance is manditory, I have no idea why anyone would go without it.
Gun laws, dont care, I'm not a wacko, I can own what I want to.
6% sales tax on goods only, not on services or food.
Do you scuba dive? There are at least 5,000 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes.
We have over 11,000 inland lakes, that means lakes inside the state not including the big ones like Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, etc.
We have more state owned land for public use than any other state in the country too.
There is also commercial fishing on the Great Lakes.
Canada is close so you can go to the good strip clubs and casinos.
Our largest city by population is Grand Rapids, Detroit by size.
You can snow ski in the winter, surf in the spring, fall and summer.
You name it you can do it.

Stay clear of MD, although there are a bunch of Disco owners here, you cant go off road and the gun laws are a wee bit prohibative but the crabs are great

Honestly I haven't tried half the kinds you mentioned above and Ill stay away from catfish but in general I enjoy fishing on a boat and trout etc and open to some new kinds of fish.

Sucks about the car insurance, yeah everybody should have it BUT auto insurance companies should also offer much lower rates! Before I moved to Mass for awhile I paid around $160 per month for full coverage on my 1999 Saab 9-5, through Progressive. Then once I moved to MA, Progressive quoted me nearly $450 per month for the same coverage, same car, same driver and no new violations on my record! $450 per month! Add in rent, utilities, gas, vehicle expenses, food, entertainment and Im in the negative -$$$$.00! So that Spike is why some of us do not have auto insurance (at least in NH). Cant afford not to drive and we understand the risk if we get into an accident. We gamble because we have no other choice.

Never scuba-dived before but always wanted to and I love the notion of exploring underwater wrecks! Not worried about the weather cause its similar up here in NH. Lots of lakes sounds dam good to me. I also have 2 very good friends in Kirchner Ontario so living in Michigan would allow me to go up there and see them seeing how close they are. All in all it seems like the best choice for relocating. Its not to far from the twin states where my family lives so a drive there for the holidays each year is more plausible then say from Washington state. Also would work because I would not have to worry abot $$$$ for getting my Disco transported there, I can just pack up my stuff and drive there. Would not even need a uhaul!

The only drawback is the low employment rate.... id have to do alot of research and collect some newspapers from various regions within Michigan and see what I can come up with for a job in advance.

Thanks for the tips Spike.

And to everybody else for adding input here - much appreciated. Just have to see how things turn out once I get back from Alaska, but so far I think Michigan is the winner.

As a diver... I have a suggestion...

If you can't do car insurance... don't start diving!

You want to talk expensive? Haha man I've got the better part of $10000 tied up in diving gear.

Nope not an option. The freedom, independence and feeling of satisfaction that comes with owning your own vehicle and driving wherever you want, when you want is to good to pass up. Besides, I could not part with the enjoyment of owning a Land Rover. Anytime Im at work in the company car and I spot a Rover, I get super excited and wish the hell I was driving my Rover cause then Id hook my horn like crazy and wave at them!

Your insurance gamble forces the rest of us to have un-insured motorist coverage, and that won't help when you hit a kid on a bicycle. The lawyers will have every cent you ever make for the rest of your life, any asset you have is gone, etc. If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford gas for a Rover. Freedoms come with responsibilities. You can't drive where you want, most land is private property, and you have no right to leave wheel tracks on their land without permission.

You are working to put food on the table, a roof over your head. Maybe start a family, build for the future. That future is in peril without insurance. There are way too many hungry attorneys out there.

Buzz relax man. I'm actually a very safe driver. Leave my headlights on at all times while driving, always use my blinker, always look afew cars ahead and give plenty of distance between my Rover and the cars around me, always apply brakes early, dont talk on cell or text while driving, dont drink or do drugs, dont do much speeding, and I dont even drive that fair cause my work is a 10 minute drive away and they provide company vehicles while on the clock. Yes **** can happen, but as it is Ive never been in an accident and I dont plan to either. Now when I move out of state, obviously I will add full coverage auto insurance. Just making a point about insurance companies and how difficult they make it for the people.

On a side note my regi expired and I wont be renewing it or driving my own vehicle until I get back from Alaska. So one less potential uninsured accident right?
