On a strictly off road truck okay maybe, but on a LR used on the highway I’d just get an 03 linkage (if you don’t have a CDL) or an 04 linkage and fix it properly by bypassing removing the inop unit from the TC, and using the newer external stye found on 03 or 04 linkages. Might be a few $$$, but it’s way better vs what “could” happen.
i asked Before and the replies I got were to remove it. I’ve added the Ashcroft cdl. I’m not sure if the 04 solenoid system is compatible? I usually keep my wallet and gloves in between the transfer case shifter and dash. Hopefully that’s enough of a lockout. One of my parts trucks has an operable solenoid, maybe I can pull that one when I get a chance

Only the OEM LR 03-04 has the interlock mount on the shifter itself. 99-02 is like a D1 and is located on the TC itself. The actual solenoid itself is the same part I’m like 99% sure so you could slap in an interlock solenoid from any 94-04 D2 into the TC.

“If” it pops out into N just don’t panic. Coast to a stop, put trans in N and then pop it back into 4Hi.

04 D2 only has one interlock solenoid. If it’s hard to move (but does move) it’s the linkage is corroded vs the interlock.

Do you plug the from unit at the back of the radio/cassette unit, or do you connect at the cable connection where the cd changer used to be?

Coil relocation! Easy peasy, lemon squeezyy

Just have spark plugs to go. Didn't have to buy anything, just used scrap stuff I had laying around. Not as pro as Gerry's, but she should get the job done

Nice work!

Did you have to get longer plug wires or did they reach?

Wires plugged in and she runs good. Had to cannibalize a spare set of wires
