Some people say adios to the interlock completely, but I’ve seen the aftermath when a passengers handbag snags the handle and it goes from 4Hi to N then in the panic that follows someone bumps it either back into 4Hi crank snapple pop, god forbid into 4Lo when a rather larger jolt is felt followed by a lovely explosion of internal parts & outer casing. On a strictly off road truck okay maybe, but on a LR used on the highway I’d just get an 03 linkage (if you don’t have a CDL) or an 04 linkage and fix it properly by bypassing removing the inop unit from the TC, and using the newer external stye found on 03 or 04 linkages. Might be a few $$$, but it’s way better vs what “could” happen.

Only the OEM LR 03-04 has the interlock mount on the shifter itself. 99-02 is like a D1 and is located on the TC itself. The actual solenoid itself is the same part I’m like 99% sure so you could slap in an interlock solenoid from any 94-04 D2 into the TC.
“If” it pops out into N just don’t panic. Coast to a stop, put trans in N and then pop it back into 4Hi.
04 D2 only has one interlock solenoid. If it’s hard to move (but does move) it’s the linkage is corroded vs the interlock.
