Anyway, I’m unable to find Gateway module under service test. Can’t find battery replacement routine anywhere. Any tips? Autozone did whatever they did with their computer and claim everything is set. But all these strange issues have me worried.

You on the latest G4 Gap IIDTool? Maybe your Gaptool isn’t updated or latest tool / firmware (ie it’s a G3?? Here’s the menu path screenshots on my G4:

These battery issues just seem to keep adding up. At 2 1/2 years in my battery was replaced under warranty. A month after my warranty expired I began getting the ‘BATTERY LOW, PLEASE START ENGINE’ messages. A trip to the dealer to inquire whether there was a warranty on the battery went nowhere, as the service advisor claimed that once the vehicle warranty expired there is no warranty on the battery. Not what I was expecting but they wouldn’t budge. Purchased a CTEK trickle charger, since I have another vehicle that I use only a few times a week, a Porsche Boxster, which needs the CTEK even more. I had the Defender on the CTEK for about 48 hours but my readings on a multimeter show a voltage of 12.14 volts. Seems to me like it should be higher. What’s the consensus on this? Is that a low voltage, and is that a signal that the battery may be on the way to failing? Have read of other owners on their 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th battery. Seems like a manufacturer or design issue to have such a brief battery life. But without a recall only hope is for a class action suit or regulatory agency directive.

Not sure if this helps but my Defender has been sitting outside not driven since last Wednesday morning and I forgot to connect my CTEK. Started it up this morning and volts read 12.5 initially then after 30 seconds back to 14.1. I also did a battery check last month with my Foxwell BT705 battery tester and it read all good. This is year 3 on the factory exide battery.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping I’m not shelling out for a battery soon. Just pulled this from the internet:

WHAT VOLTAGE SHOULD MY BATTERY BE AT?

A fully charged Range Rover, Defender, & Discovery car battery should read about 12.6 volts when the engine is off and 13.7–14.7 volts when the engine is running.

So, yours at 12.5 is fine, and when the alternator is charging your reading of 14.1 is fine. Mine is about four volts low, which has me concerned, especially after 48 hours on the CTEK.
